What does KBJ mean?
KBJ stands for Korean BJ. A BJ, short for broadcast jockey, is a Korean live streamer: someone who hosts their own channel, usually on camera, and talks with viewers in real time. International fans shortened “Korean BJ” to KBJ.
Where the word comes from
“BJ” was the name AfreecaTV, Korea's pioneer personal-broadcasting site, gave to its creators, echoing the radio “DJ”. The word spread to every Korean platform. In 2024 AfreecaTV rebranded as SOOP and started using the word “streamer”, but viewers and hosts still say BJ, and PandaLive still calls itself a “BJ broadcasting platform”.
Korean words you will see in titles
- 여캠 (yeo-cam): a woman streaming on camera, usually chatting. Many hosts tag their streams with it.
- 토크/캠방: SOOP's Talk / Cam category, where most women BJs stream.
- 뮤직/댄스: Music / Dance, for singing and dance covers.
- 먹방 (mukbang): eating on stream.
- 합방 (hapbang): a joint stream with other BJs.
- 신입: a newcomer, often in titles like “new female streamer”.
- 홍보방: a promotion room advertising several hosts.
How Korean BJs earn money
On SOOP, viewers send star balloons (별풍선), paid virtual gifts converted into income for the BJ, and can subscribe to a channel; some replays are reserved for subscribers. On PandaLive, viewers buy coins and climb a fan-grade ladder set by each host. Titles such as “roulette”, “dice” or a coin target announce games tied to those gifts.
How many KBJs are live?
Hundreds of women stream on the two platforms every day. The most we have seen live at the same moment is 252; even at the quietest hour of the last day, about 59 were on air. KBJ Radar has tracked 722 of them since we started tracking on Sep 16, 2026: 517 on SOOP and 205 on PandaLive. SOOP is busiest around 20:00, 21:00, 22:00 KST, PandaLive around 12:00, 13:00, 14:00 KST.
